Updating nameservers is a common step when pointing your domain to a new hosting provider or DNS service. While the exact interface differs across registrars (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, etc.), the overall process is similar.
Log in to Your Registrar Account
Go to your domain registrar’s website.
Sign in using the credentials associated with your domain.
Step 2: Locate Domain Management
Find the Domains or My Domains section in your account dashboard.
Select the domain name you want to update.
Access DNS or Nameserver Settings
Look for options like DNS Management, Manage Nameservers, or Advanced Settings.
In some registrars, this may be under Domain Settings or Additional Settings.
Step 4: Replace Nameservers
You’ll see your current nameservers (often the registrar’s default).
Choose the option to use custom nameservers.
Enter the new nameserver values provided by your hosting or DNS provider.
Example format:
ns1.example.comns2.example.com
Step 5: Save Changes
Click Save or Apply Changes.
Confirm any prompts asking if you’re sure about the update.
Step 6: Wait for Propagation
DNS changes don’t take effect immediately.
Updates may take anywhere from a few minutes up to 24–48 hours to fully propagate across the internet.
NOTE: Ensure you have at least two nameservers (primary & secondary). Double-check the spelling because a typo can make your domain unreachable.
